What Is A Committeeperson?
The Democratic Committeeperson is an unpaid position, elected every four years during the Illinois primary (March 17th, 2020) to represent their ward or township in the Democratic Party of Cook County.
What do they do?
This person is responsible for maintaining a political organization within the ward, organizing events to engage neighbors, and working with the rest of the Committee to make endorsements, fill vacancies, and slate candidates running for county and state-wide offices.
Who is the current 40th Ward Democratic Committeeperson?
Pat O’Connor is the current 40th Ward Democratic Committeeperson. He is not seeking re-election.
In recent years, Andre has led the effort to build a network of neighbors who want to have a voice in the decisions facing our ward. That means registering new voters, proactively reaching out to citizens in all corners of the 40th ward, and giving everyone a platform to make their voices heard.
We will call on that network to create a community-driven endorsement and appointment process that empowers neighbors in the 40th ward to vote on decisions facing the Committeeperson, including the slating and endorsement of candidates and the filling of vacancies. Andre will be one voice and one vote among many in this effort.
